Dabeli!

Kutchi Dabeli is a very popular Indian Street Food and and is stuffed with tangy and spicy potato masala with chutney. Here it is how to make at home very quickly and easily.




Just like vada pav or pav bhaji dabeli is also very famous street food and is loved by all. It's a very good snack for evening tea.




Ingredients:

  • For Dabeli Masala Powder:

    • 1 tsp coriander seeds

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp fennel

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 inch cinnamon

  • 1 pod black cardamom

  • 6 cloves

  • 1 star anise

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

  • 2 tsp dry coconut

  • 3 dried red chilli

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp aamchur powder

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt


For Aloo Mixture

  • 2 tsp tamarind chutney

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 tsp oil

  • 3 boiled potatoes,mashed

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp coconut, grated

  • 1 tsp coriander, finely chopped

  • 2 tsp sev

  • 2 tsp pomegranate

  • 2 tsp spiced peanut


For Serving

  • 5 pav

  • 5 tsp green chutney

  • 5 tsp tamarind chutney

  • some chopped onions

  • butter, for toasting


Instructions:


Dabeli Masala Powder

  1. Firstly, in a pan add all the dry spices mentioned above masala powder. Dry roast on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.

  2. Cool it completely and transfer to a small mixer jar. Add turmeric, aamchur, sugar and salt.

  3. Blend to a fine powder, dabeli masala is ready.


Aloo mixture

  1. Take 3 tsp of this prepared masala powder in a bowl along with 2 tsp tamarind chutney and 1/4 cup water. Mix it well and make sure there won't be any lumps.

  2. Now take a pan, heat 2 tsp oil. Pour the masala mixture into the hot oil.

  3. Cook for 2 mins, further add mashed potatoes some salt to taste and mix well.

  4. Transfer the mixture into a bowl and spread it evenly.

  5. Now garnish it with coconut, coriander, onions, sev, peanuts and pomegranate.

For Assembling

  1. Slit the pav in the centre and spread green chutney on one side of the pav and tamarind chutney on another side.

  2. Stuff the prepared mixture into the pav. Now toast the pav in butter and finally roll into sev.
