Updated: Jul 5, 2020

Paniyaram/Appe is best and healthy South Indian tea time snack. Crispy on outside and tender inside- serve it with coconut/onion-tomato chutney to blend up the mood of the snack table.

Paniyaram is a popular South Indian snack. There are many different types of Paniyaram recipe. This can be prepared using different ingredients like-rice flour, idli batter to rava. For instant preparation I've used suji/ rava/ semolina.

I love snacks a lot and for instant preparation best way is rava unlike traditional rice appe for which we have to grind and ferment the batter. The main ingredients are suji and curd and for instant fermentation cooking soda is required.

There are many ingredients with which you can experiment with this appe to give it a nice flavour and you can personalize it as per your liking. As far my choice I've used cheese, onions, carrots, beetroots.

What to serve with appe?

You can server vegetable sambar, coconut Chutney or mint chutney or simple onion-tomato chutney.

Paniyaram can be enjoyed with any side dish. Many of them also serve it with some meat or fish curry as well.
